How we do it
We combine ecological science, advanced mapping, and local partnerships to achieve large-scale restoration. Scaling restoration is crucial for the planet, and re.green is uniquely positioned to get there.
Bioflora
Piracicaba, São Paulo
Bioflora is one of the main tree nurseries for native seedlings in Brazil! Founded in 1998 by a team that is now part of re.green, the nursery aims to contribute to the development of forest restoration with high quality standard products and services.
In 2021, re.green acquired Bioflora, and it became an essential part of our business. Headquartered in Piracicaba, in the state of São Paulo, Bioflora is a benchmark for seeds and seedlings training and science. It is our model nursery for research, suppliers, partners and our entire team!
Currently, it has a capacity of 2 million seedlings/year with potential for expansion to up to 10 million seedlings/year.
Seeds
re.green’s restoration is done exclusively with native species, many of which are regional. In order to restore all ecosystem processes and recover a resilient forest, it is essential that the chosen plants are a natural part of the region’s biome.
Bioflora has already produced more than a thousand types of Brazilian seeds that are part of our biodiversity species. Meet some of them:
- Cariniana legalis – Pink Jequitibá
- Dalbergia nigra – Jacarandá from Bahia
- Handroanthus impetiginosus -purple Ipê
- Hymenaea courbaril – Jatoba
- Paubrasilia echinata – Pau Brasil
Our projects
We’re restoring thousands of hectares in biodiversity hotspots in the Atlantic Forest, while partnering with local communities.
344 plantable hectares, with 100% of the area already in the restoration process.
Our Ouro Verde Project, located in Eunápolis, Bahia, is 100% planted and growing. This region has suffered decades of environmental degradation due to low-productivity pasture use, and we are committed to changing this reality.
Over the next 50 years, we will restore and preserve the area, ensuring the sustainability of nature.
Ouro Verde is part of our initiative in the Atlantic Forest, currently undergoing approval by Verra.
1,292 plantable hectares.
974 hectares already restored.
We are expanding our efforts in the Atlantic Forest in southern Bahia. The Belo Horizonte project is located 50 kilometers from the Ouro Verde farm.
The total land area is approximately 2,400 hectares, with most of the mechanized area already planted with a variety of native Atlantic Forest species.
Belo Horizonte is part of our initiative in the Atlantic Forest, currently undergoing approval by Verra.
8,826 plantable hectares.
6,986 hectares already restored.
Our first large-scale project in the Amazon is Entre Rios, located in Maracaçumé, near the border between the Maranhão and Pará states, with its forest restoration process beginning in 2023.
It covers a total area of approximately 18,000 previously degraded hectares.
Entre Rios is part of our Amazon initiative, currently undergoing approval by Verra.
1,588 plantable hectares.
84 hectares already restored.
Our first property in the state of Pará complements our activities in the Amazon biome. Our Ipê project pays tribute to the vibrant beauty of this native Brazilian species.
175 plantable hectares.
We have already started the restoration!
Along with the Ouro Verde and Belo Horizonte projects, the Gameleira project is our third property in southern Bahia, further strengthening our efforts in the Atlantic Forest.
