re.green has signed a 30-year partnership with Vivo, Brazil’s largest telecommunications company, to develop a restoration and regeneration project in degraded areas of the Amazon rainforest. This is re.green’s first restoration contract with a Brazilian company, following recent agreements with multinationals such as Microsoft and Nestlé.
The initiative will restore and protect approximately 800 hectares of forest, with the planting of around 900,000 trees from 30 native species, in one of the most deforested regions of the biome. The partnership was featured by the news portal Terra, in its Futuro Vivo section:
Read the news on Terra PortalEcological restoration will take place in the Gurupi–Turiaçu Mosaic, an important ecological corridor between western Maranhão and eastern Pará that has been threatened by deforestation and degradation. The project will help reconnect forest fragments, restore ecological functions and benefit threatened species, supporting the gradual and natural return of biodiversity.
re.green will be responsible for the project’s technical and social-environmental implementation, including the full ecological design of the restoration – from species selection and seed management to the use of monitoring technologies to track seedling growth, natural regeneration and climate and ecosystem benefits over time.
Having Vivo as our first Brazilian client is a milestone for re.green and for the country itself. It shows that Brazil has companies willing to lead, with a long-term vision, the restoration of its ecosystems. We have the science, technology and execution capacity to turn nature recovery into a national development agenda. Together with Vivo, we want to show that restoring the Amazon is restoring the future – and that Brazil can be a global reference in rebuilding nature”
Thiago Picolo, CEO, re.green.
Floresta Futuro Vivo
The work ranges from soil preparation and species selection tailored to local conditions, to seed collection and seedling production and planting, supported by some of re.green’s 22 partner nurseries across Brazil. The restoration aims at the full ecological recomposition of the area, including the recovery of springs and watercourses and positive impacts on biodiversity.
Rebuilding the ecosystem with native species not only supports the return of natural water flows and benefits smallholder farmers in the surrounding areas, but also strengthens local communities and promotes the development of sustainable value chains – such as native seed supply and the production of non-timber forest products, including açaí. The initiative has been named Floresta Futuro Vivo (“Living Future Forest”).
For Vivo, there is no business without sustainability. We want to generate a positive impact on nature. Helping to restore the Amazon is our next step toward a more living future – for people, for biodiversity and for the planet”
Christian Gebara, CEO, Vivo
About re.green
re.green was founded in 2021 to address one of the greatest challenges of our time: restoring tropical forests at scale, generating positive impacts for the climate, biodiversity and local development, while delivering attractive and consistent financial returns. The company combines science, technology and capital to transform degraded areas into functional ecosystems in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest biomes.
It has already attracted leading investors, clients and partners such as BNDES, Microsoft, Nestlé and Vivo. Its projects generate high-integrity carbon credits, restore biodiversity and create economic opportunities in strategic territories. re.green currently operates on more than 37,000 hectares in four Brazilian states and is working to restore 1 million hectares of native forests in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest, which would enable the capture of an estimated 15 million tonnes of carbon per year. Since its founding, the company has cultivated around 6 million seedlings. In 2025, it became the first Brazilian company to win The Earthshot Prize, the world’s leading environmental award.
