COP27, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, is one of the most important events in the world for discussing environmental issues. In 2022, the event took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and re.green could not miss it!
During the first week, we hosted a panel discussion at the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) booth titled “Ecological Restoration Potentials for Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Other Sustainable Development Goals.” The session brought together David Cooper (Deputy Executive Secretary, Convention on Biological Diversity), Izabella Teixeira (Co-Chair of the International Resource Panel), and Judith Walcott (Senior Safeguards Specialist, UN Environment Programme), as well as Bernardo Strassburg, our founder and Co-CEO.
Our director of international relations, Mariana Barbosa, stated that “Forest restoration is a means of mitigating climate change and protecting biodiversity, which also has a social impact by creating jobs and strengthening local nurseries and collector networks,” during the panel “Financing Nature-Based Solutions and Scaling Up Forest Restoration in Brazil.”
Our participation in COP27 took place remotely. Fernando Gardon, our forestry engineer, contributed to a report on the event for Jornal da Globo. He spoke about the importance of forest restoration in mitigating the effects of climate change.
This year, re.green will be in Dubai for COP28.
It is also worth noting that the city of Pará, in Brazil, has been chosen to host the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP 30) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will take place in 2025.
