re.green secures R$ 80 million from Brazil’s Climate Fund in landmark biodiversity-labeled transaction
May 19, 2025
re.green has concluded a landmark transaction, securing R$ 80 million (approx. US$ 15 million) from the Climate Fund (Fundo Clima) of BNDES, with a guarantee letter and ESG advisory provided by Bradesco. This marks the first biodiversity labeling ever applied to a restoration project in Brazil, recognized by S&P Global Ratings with a “Dark Green” evaluation — the highest score in its international Shades of Green methodology.
The funds will support ecological restoration in priority areas of the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon, covering over 16,000 hectares. S&P’s evaluation confirms alignment with leading global sustainable finance frameworks and with IFC’s Biodiversity Finance Reference Guide.
“This is a double milestone: the use of private guarantees to unlock public capital, and the technical recognition of forest restoration as essential infrastructure for climate, biodiversity, and territorial development” – Thiago Picolo, CEO of re.green.
The operation strengthens BNDES’s Climate Fund strategy, designed to scale projects with measurable environmental benefits and socio-economic impact. Part of the resources will support re.green’s agreement with Microsoft, aimed at generating high-integrity carbon credits through the restoration of native forests.
With more than 26,000 hectares already restored and 4.5 million seedlings planted, re.green continues to lead the way in transforming nature into essential infrastructure for Brazil and beyond.
